He wrote newspapers journals called ‘Chingari’ and ‘Dukh Duniya’ and penned political uprisings of Punjab and grievances of the farmers. He was the founder of Kisan Sabha in Punjab and was elected as the secretary of the Punjab Kisan Sabha in 1938. There he came in contact with early communist pioneers of Punjab and joined the Communist Party in 1934 and became a member of Congress Socialist Party in 1935. When enquired in the court, he introduced himself as “London Tod Singh” and was imprisoned by the British government under juvenile offenders for a year. On the anniversary of the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh in March 1932, he hoisted the tricolor on the district court of Hoshiarpur which resulted in open fire and his arrest. Harkishan Singh Surjeet, hailing from Jalandar district of Punjab started his political career in 1930 by joining the movement of Bhagat Singh “Naujawan Bharat Sabha'' in his early teens.
